Cube Hydro Carolina’s hydroelectric station High Rock successfully commissioned and placed back in service the first of its three units. The comprehensive upgrade included GE’s new aerating runner technology, generator field pole upgrades, and new electrical equipment including new control system (PLC), protective relays, switchgear, generator circuit breaker and voltage regulator. Regional Utility Services performed the turbine centerline disassembly and reassembly, as well as the balance of plant mechanical work including new piping, service water strainers and filters and oily water separator. Service One provided the electrical installation for all of the electrical equipment. GE Renewable Energy supplied the new aerating runner and either rehabilitated or supplied new centerline equipment.

In addition to the advanced aerating turbine, the High Rock facility is also equipped with Cube’s proprietary linear aerating valve, which provides the required aeration during non-generating conditions. The technologies combined will provide the capability needed to meet the dissolved oxygen requirements in the Yadkin River.
